I’ve been pretty lax about posting lately, partly due to lack of new photos or interesting trips to write about. That will all change soon, though. Friday morning, the MadWinds (my woodwind quintet, pictured at right) are traveling to southern Brazil to participate in a music festival. The Festival de Música de Santa Catarina is a two-week festival that takes place in the city of Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. We, along with a number of other graduate quintets from American universities (including a brass quintet from UW-Madison) were invited by Alex Klein, the festival’s director and former principal oboist of the Chicago Symphony. We’ll be participating in the festival’s orchestral program, serving as instructors in the band program, and performing as a quintet. I’m hoping that we’ll get some free time to experience Brazil, as well.
So, I should soon have a wealth of stories and photos suitable for posting. I don’t know yet if we’ll have regular ‘net access while we’re there. Even if we do, I don’t know how much free time we’ll have. If I can’t post during the trip, I’ll be sure to do so afterwards. I’m set up to take a ton of photos — I bought two new batteries for my digital camera and a new 1 GB compact flash card — so I hope to end up with lots of good shots.
Adeus!
